South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns picked a vital point in their CAF champions league match against Sudanese side Al Merrikh at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.
The Brazilians made two changes to their last domestic league match with Erwin Saavedra getting his first start and Rivaldo Coetzee returning.
Sundowns created scoring chances, pinned Merreikh in their own half, but Monged Abuzaid in the Sudanese’s goal couldn’t let anything pass.
The host nearly took the lead in the hour mark but the South African based team stood resolute with the points shared.
Sundowns who started their campaign with a 1-0 win against another Sudanese side Al Hilal last weekend were the most enterprising but couldn’t crack for an opening goal.
With four points, Sundowns are top of the pile. With Merrikh struggling to create chances, the Sudanese giants will take a draw in their first match of the group phase, a result that sees them sit third in the group.
