Members of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana will start voting today, 23 January 2023 on who becomes the Footballer of the year, 2022.
Ajax star Mohammed Kudus will be in strong contention to win the award after having a good year under review.
Kudus was the best player for Ghana at the just ended 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar – winning the MVP award in the Black Stars’ 3-2 victory over South Korea. He also became the first Ghanaian player to score a brace in a single World Cup game.
The Ajax star played 50 games for both club and country, scoring 17 goals.
The 22-year-old was voted the Footballer of the Year in the 2021 edition of the Swag Awards.
Kudus could join Thomas Partey and Andre Ayew as two-time winners of the prestigious SWAG Footballer of the Year Award.
Overall, about 400 members of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana are expecting to vote with the deadline on Friday, 27th.
Partey played a key role in Ghana’s qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Scoring a vital goal against Nigeria in the play-off at the Mo`shood Abiola Sports Stadium in Abuja. Within the calendar year, he made 33 appearances for Arsenal scored 3 goals.
Andre Morgan Ayew scored a goal at the world cup after 3 matches. He played 28 times for Al Sadd in the league, scoring 14 goals.
The Awards will take place at the International Conference Centre on Saturday, January, 28th.
