London witnessed an unforgettable celebration of women’s club football today as the world’s finest players lit up Arsenal Stadium with skill, passion and world-class performances.
In a landmark final, the champions of CONMEBOL Libertadores and the UEFA Women’s Champions League went head-to-head in the inaugural FIFA Women’s Champions Cup ™ decider. Tension and excitement filled the air until the end of extra time, when Arsenal edged a thrilling contest 3-2 to be crowned the first-ever FIFA Women’s Champions Cup™ winners, lifting the trophy in front of ecstatic tans.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino was among the guests in attendance, joining other dignitaries in congratulating all medal winners on their outstanding achievements on the pitch. In addition to the unique trophy, the winners of the tournament also receive money prize, which is unparalleled among women’s club football tournaments. The winners of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup receive USD 2.3 million, while the runners-up earn USD 1 million.
The new FIFA Women’s Champions Cup™ brings together the best women’s clubs from all six confederations to compete for the title of Intercontinental Champions, setting a new global benchmark for excellence in the women’s club game.
The tournament’s impact also extends far beyond the matches on the pitch. Against the backdrop of the four matches in London, FIFA, the Football Association (the FA) and the Women’s Super League (WSL) are launching a variety of initiatives to promote the long-term development of women’s football. These include a scholarship fund for female coaches in England pursuing the highest coaching qualifications, which is funded by FIFA.
The FIFA Women’s Champions Cup™ will be played annually in the years between FIFA Women’s Club World Cups, ensuring a continuous global events calendar and strengthening the women’s game. The next edition will take place in 2027, with host venues and participating clubs to be announced in due course.
