The chief executive officer of Aduana Stars, Albert Commey has stated that the signing on Fee payments to players must be squashed to ensure that club owners get the needed space to improve on the proposed standard of player’s wage.

The normalization committee met with club captains to deliberate on how to improve the game. A fruitful meeting which was well attended by the Division One and Women football representatives and the presence of about half of captains of Ghana Premier League clubs were well represented as well.

Paramount in the meeting was the discussion of the working conditions of the players and their contractual obligations through which the players were able to voice out all the problems they face when it comes to their remuneration and also suggested they all have a standard contract to respect

It came out from the meeting that a standard has to be set. A standard that would ensure a minimum salary of Players to two thousand Ghana Cedis GHS2000.

This proposed standard put a lot of financial responsibility on club owners and directors as compare to the past where there was no such limits.

Speaking with Hello FM in Kumasi, Albert Commey had this to say.

“My arguments is very simple that if we don’t pay players well one thing we forget is signing on fee. They are advance payments to help the player’s welfare.

The clubs are not ‘Father Christmas’ so they entice players with this package to do something for their lives. There are also bonuses to be paid to these players. So if that is the case then why don’t we abolish the signing on fee in order to improve on player’s salaries?

Some players use these monies (signing on fee) to buy asset others also misuses it.

So now if clubs are at the receiving end my suggestion is that we squash it.”

It is however not clear as to the time the league returns, but the normalization committee mandate to normalize football ends in March 2019.
