The Head Coach of Asante Kotoko, Charles Akonnor says he knew what to do after his side was defeated 1-3 by Nkana FC in Zambia and that informed him in adopting the right strategy for the return match.
Asante Kotoko defeated Nkana FC 3-0 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in the second league of the CAF Confederation Cup group matches after suffering the heaviest defeat in the hands of the same opponent.
Coach Akonnor, had in mind what to do to get the needed three points. The coach was speaking to the media after the return match at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
“I wasn’t worry about how we could possess the ball, I was worry about how we could defend. On our way back home I had in mind what to do. I worked throughout the week with the defenders as we were going to change our set up. Darkwah came in and Wahab as well. I was worried but this boys gave in a good match and am very proud of them.”
Suspension and injuries also allowed the coach to make changes to his team.
“Our captain was suspended he couldn’t play, the next thing was who could play on the left side and we thought it wise that Bernard Darkwah has the best opportunity to play, I think it was a risk for some time you have to risk you know and am very happy for that boy, he did very well. I thought he couldn’t last for 90 minutes but again, he surprised me so am very happy for him.”
